MTG Mission Planning Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting an MTG Mission Planning Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION
To provide consultancy support for Mission Planning Engineering consultancy to the MTG ground segment team.

You will provide consultancy to the Geostationary Orbit (GEO) division, and in particular to the Mission Operations Facility (MOF) team, until shortly after launch. This period covers the remaining part of the MOF procurement phase and the operations preparation phase. During routine operations post-launch the Contractor will provide consultancy to FLO division.

The tasks will be carried out at EUMETSA T facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The tasks will typically include, during the remaining procurement phase:
• Providing consultancy to the MTG ground segment team in following the MTG Mission Planning System (MPS) and procedure edition and execution tools procurement, to make sure that the delivery fits the intended purpose;
• Participating in reviews for the MPS, the procedure edition and execution tools, and interfacing facilities. Analysing and reviewing relevant MTG documentation, preparing technical notes and attending technical meetings;
• Participating in MPS, procedure edition and execution tools testing (e.g. Factory and On-Site Acceptance Testing) and related activities at facility and system level. Analysing and reporting on the test results, in particular with respect to their suitability for requirement verification and validation;
• Creation and execution of test procedures on the assigned MOF elements in order to validate their readiness for operational usage;
• Participating in the installation of the MPS, procedure edition and execution tools at EUMETSAT, while fulfilling the configuration management requirements. Verifying the facility installation; •
Defining the Mission Planning, procedure edition and execution tools operational implementation (database structures, etc);
• Monitoring and steering the lifecycle for MPS, procedure edition and execution tools related anomaly reports (ARs) and non-conformance reports (NCRs);
• Interacting with internal users, suppliers and partner organisations;
• Maintaining internally generated tools and creation of new internal tools, mainly developed in Java, C and C++.

During the operations preparation and routine operations phase, the tasks include:
• Performing routine and contingency scheduling tasks using the MPS and procedure edition and execution tools;
• Performing preventative maintenance on the MPS and associated tools according to working practice, generally by running system checks to spot any system anomalies or errors;
• Raising anomaly reports when necessary and monitoring their resolution through attendance at appropriate review boards. Supplying context and initial analyses that may aid the investigation of anomalies;
• Responding to mission planning related anomalies and operational contingencies promptly;
• Maintenance of mission planning documentation such as the User Guide document and the Operational Implementation document;
• Liaising with external entities where necessary in order to fulfil joint operations requirements. Maintaining documentation concerning this;
• Maintaining a detailed understanding of the operational needs that are met through mission planning. Through regular liaison with space and ground segment experts, implementing, testing and documenting new or modified operational needs that are met through mission planning;
• Performing the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the MPS operational implementation in all mission phases;
• Rolling out of new versions of the MPS operational implementation following approved configuration management procedures;
• Contributing to the definition of any changes to the supplied mission planning application software or to in-house supporting software that could lead to performance and/or ergonomics improvements. Contributing to the process of implementing such changes, and liaising with any external contractors that may be performing the changes;
• Contributing to the definition and raising of Engineering Change Proposals and Change Requests concerning mission planning, and attending ECP Review Board meetings if necessary;
• Contributing to the operational validation of new versions of mission planning application software, including testing of AR/NCR correction and new functionality. This may include FAT or OSAT attendance;
• Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews (long term scheduling, schedule consolidation, anomaly review boards, etc);
• Training of personnel in mission planning tasks as required.

YOUR PROFILE
In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, you shall have experience of spacecraft and/or ground segment procurement.
You shall have, as a pre-requisite, a demonstrated experience in the field of Space Mission Planning of at least 5 years, preferably gained during the specification, development and operation of space systems.

You shall demonstrate as a minimum
• At least 5 years of practical experience in Mission Planning, procedure edition and execution tools specification/development/procurement/operation of a GEO and/or a LEO space system;
• At least 5 years of Software technology skills in programming languages such as C/C++/Java on UNIX and MS Windows;
• At least 5 years of experience of routine mission planning operations;
• AIV related activities (test procedure generation, requirements verification and validation);
• Practical experience with Software Version Control Systems (e.g. CVS, SVN or Git) and Software Configuration Management Systems (e.g. Serena Dimensions);
• Practical experience with the Linux/Unix operating system (user command level). In addition, the following will be considered as an asset:
• Knowledge of ECSS Space Engineering Standards, in particular those related to Mission Control;
• Experience of operations preparation in the area of Mission Planning, procedure edition and execution tools;
• Maintenance of a Mission Planning Subsystem, procedure edition and execution tools;
• DOORS;
• Satellite monitoring & control;
• Working experience with relational databases and sql.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English, and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.
