Long Term Archive Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting a Long Term Archive Engineer to provide support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION
You will provide Long Term Archive Engineering support for the new programmes. You shall provide support to the TSS Department – GSI division - Data Services Team – involved within all phases of software engineering ranging from requirements analysis, design, implementation and verification/ validation of the software.

The tasks will be carried out at our client’s facilities in Darmstadt.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Long Term Archive Engineer shall perform:
• Requirement management, design, implementation, verification/ validation and
maintenance of EUMETSAT Long Term archive software and documentation, and
related commercial off the shelf software (COTS), throughout the entire software life
cycle with particular focus on evolutions for new programmes;
• Investigation of anomalies, their documentation, classification and, the development and
delivery of S/W correction, including the execution of relevant regression testing;
• 2nd line support for the EUMETSAT Long Term Archive and the related communication
and interaction with other teams at EUMETSAT;
• Software configuration management, release preparation and deployment of software
corrections.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following background:
• A minimum of 5-year experience in the following mandatory areas:
• Software development, verification/validation and maintenance, using a formal life
• cycle;
• Software Engineering with extensive experience in designing and developing software
• components and applications in the Java 1 and C++/C programming language under
• Unix/Linux using Object Oriented (OO) approach;
• Provision of 2nd line maintenance support for operational systems;
• Relational Databases (JDBC and SQL);
• XML, XML Schema and XSLT technologies.
• Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following will be an advantage:
• Usage of Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) system (SAM-FS or equivalent);
• Operations and maintenance of long term archive software and systems in a 24/7
• operational environment;
• Software development using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT);
• Meteorological Data Format Conversion (netCDF);
• Tomcat Application server development;
• Spatial Solutions (Oracle Locator, Postgres/Postgis);
• Software Building and Package management.

The official languages are English and French. The working language for the consultancy is English and therefore you must be able to work and communicate effectively in this language.
