Ground Station Software and Monitoring and Control Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting a Ground Station Software and Monitoring and Control Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Consultancy is required to the Ground Stations Software and M&C engineering support in the areas of:

• Existing Ground Stations M&C and software maintenance and engineering
• Follow up of design and development activities in Phase C/D of the new ground stations

The tasks will be carried out at EUMETSA T facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You shall provide consultancy to the Ground Stations team in the SEP Division of the TSS Department , supporting the maintenance and engineering of the existing ground stations M&C and software systems, while providing consultancy to EUMETSAT future programmes for the ground stations M&C and software elements.

You shall provide consultancy to the activities of ground segment developments in the area of Software and Monitoring and Control (M&C) related to the ground stations. In doing this, you shall support:
• The follow up of the detailed design, development activities, integration and testing during Phase C/D of the future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and M&C systems.
• The analysis and the implementation/testing of changes, or re-engineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues;
• The testing and validation of new software and databases releases;
• The maintenance of ground stations automated procedures and related databases;
• The remote operation and the maintenance of EUMETSAT Ground Stations in the areas of:
 Monitoring & Control
 Software systems
 Transfer protocol for the spacecraft telemetry, telecommand and mission data;

You will provide consultancy to a multi-disciplinary system engineering team and will report directly to the SEP Ground Stations Engineering Team Leader, however when working in a given programme, you shall report also within the established programme structure.

YOUR PROFILE
You shall have a university degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision.

You shall have, as a pre-requisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 4 years.

This experience shall include in particular:
• System software engineering in an operational earth observation environment;
• Monitoring & Control software application maintenance and configuration;
• Ground Stations Monitoring and Control ;
• Linux/Windows operating system;
• TCP/IP based communications protocols;
• C++ and Java programming languages and XML;

Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have experience with some of the following:
• Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TT&C, mission specific and/or satellite communications ground stations;
• Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards in the area of satellite Telemetry, Telecommanding, ranging & SLE (Space Link Extension)
• Data Base Applications and related configurations control mechanisms;

You shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.

The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English, and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.
