EPS-SG System Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting an EPS-SG system Data Processing Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide consultancy support in the field of system engineering to contribute to the definition and design of EPS second generation (EPS-SG). You will support the EPS-SG System Team in the Low Earth Orbit Division (LEO) at EUMETSAT and be involved in supporting the phase C/D system engineering activities related to the specification, design and development of the EPS-SG system.

The support will focus on general system aspects and end to end data processing and dissemination.

The current targeted launch of the first satellites is in 2021 and 2022.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The activities for this consultancy will include overall system aspects involving the space segment (satellites) and the ground segment, consisting of the data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, data processing facilities and product dissemination facilities. The support will focus on general system aspects and end to end data processing and dissemination.

The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant to be undertaken will typically include the following:
• System related analyses to ensure completeness and coherence of the concepts and design for end to end data processing with special focus on:
 Establish and maintain the system design in the area of data dissemination including maintenance of an overall budget.
 Ensuring that the system design is compatible with all instrument calibration needs/activities.
 Ensure that the system design takes into account all necessary auxiliary data needed for product generation
• Follow up of Instrument Functional Chain Teams (IFCT) activities from a system engineering point of view.
• Support for the preparation and maintenance of system technical specifications
• Establishing and maintaining traceability between the system technical specifications and upper and lower level requirements.
• General support to other system engineering activities for example:
- Support documentation of system design and justification
- Support ad hoc internal reviews
- Support system level formal reviews
- Support space segment level activities as required o ground segment level activities as required
- Support IV&V activities
• These activities will involve interactions with other divisions.

Travel within Europe, to the United States and possibly other parts of the world may have to be undertaken for certain tasks.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following experience and background:
• University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space and/or ground systems, in the area of Low-Earth Orbiting satellites (LEO) including end to end data processing aspects.
• Ability to analyse systems from an end-to-end perspective (combined space and ground segment), understand relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects and to present the results in a comprehensible way.
• Capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to perform system level analyses for complex polar satellite systems.

The following experience would be additional assets:
• Familiarity with EUMETSAT data dissemination concepts
• Experience with DOORs.

You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills (verbal and written) are important. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.

Fluency in English. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
