Desktop Consultancy Support

CLC Space is currently recruiting a Desktop Consultant for the provision of support to the Infrastructure and Datacentre Team of the ICT Unit at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provision of consultancy support to the Infrastructure and Datacentre Team of the ICT Unit. Infrastructure and Datacentre Team is responsible for the ICT infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Network) to the other teams as well as providing Email, File, Print and FTP Services to the organisation.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible for supporting Desktop infrastructure solutions and will apply industry accepted best practices related to Microsoft and VMware.

The detailed tasks foreseen for the consultant include as a minimum:
• Operate, maintain and monitor:
- Windows 7 64 bit Desktop Operating System and Applications,
- Novell Zenworks,
- VMware Infrastructure vSphere 5.5;
• Contribute to the Migration to Office 2013 Project by packaging Office using WSUS and Zenworks;
• Contribute to the Migration to Windows 10 Project by o preparing the base Operations System, o setting up the SCCM software distribution system, o packaging applications running on Windows 7 for Windows 10;
• Prepare, evaluate and coordinate the validation of software patches and updates to keep the Desktops up-to-date against security issues and vulnerabilities;
• Maintain software and license databases;
• Operate and maintain Antivirus infrastructure to ensure that desktops and servers are properly receiving signature updates for viruses;
• Operate and maintain Backup infrastructure to ensure that empty tapes are available and backup jobs finished successfully;
• Create, update and maintain procedures to operate, maintain and administer the system;
• Provide 2nd level user and technical support;
• Liaise with the external service provider and if necessary escalate 3rd level incidents;
• Contribute to the procurement of information technology services, systems and components by providing specifications and performing price inquiries, as well as act as interface with hardware and software suppliers regarding procurement, warranty and maintenance issues;

YOUR PROFILE

Mandatory Attributes, Skills and Experience
In addition to having a University degree in the engineering, mathematics, physics, or computer science (or similar) domains you shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills, and experience:
• Three years of recent experience in administering Microsoft Desktop using the following tools:
o System Center Configuration Manager,
o Zenworks Configuration Manager,
o Windows Deployment Toolkit;
o WSUS;
• Three years of experience in administering following VMware Infrastructure elements: o vSphere 5.5, o Horizon View;
• Ability to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks.
• Ability to write technical documentation.
• The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language.

Desirable Skills and Experience Previous experience and knowledge in any of the following areas will be considered an additional asset:
• Visual Basic Scripting;
• Symantec Netbackup;
• Veeam Backup;
• Knowledge of ITIL;
• Experience with PKI;
• Experience with KEMP Loadmaster.
